Project 2 Proposal

For my research topic, I want to research and learn more about a community that is meaningful to me and something I am passionate about. The first thing that came to my mind when thinking about a community that is special to me would be the community of the College of Education here at Florida State University. My major is Elementary Education and my goal is to ultimately be a teacher. I believe in teaching and education and I think that there are a lot of interesting topics that surround education. Those topics also have significant impacts on teachers, pre-service teachers, and education majors. Something I have already learned as I have just begun to start my journey to becoming a teacher is that there is a lot of emphasis on pre-service training and field experience when it comes to getting a degree in education. However, there is a lot of conversation about whether the programs that the College of Education offers and the requirements they mandate are actually beneficial to teachers overall. In my research paper, I hope to explore the community of the College of Education here at FSU and examine the pros and cons to the programs that are offered as well as the requirements that are assigned and see whether they are constructive and useful to teachers. The smaller community within my topic would be first year teachers as well as education-major students who have both gone through the programs already or are going through them currently. The texts I could look at might be tests, field experience logs, requirements, and academic maps. This topic is relevant to me because as a NFA Elementary Education major, I have already begun field experience work and training.
